Paul Gangloff (1982) is a graphic designer and teacher living and working in Amsterdam.

Educated at the ERBA (now ESAD) in Valence (2000 – 2003), the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam (2004 – 2006) and the Jan Van Eyck Academie, Maastricht (2010 – 2012). Was part of the short lived graphic design studio One Day Nation (2006 – 2007) with Selina BÜtler and Matthias Kreutzer and of the Faculty of Invisibility (2007 – 2010) with Inga Zimprich and SÖnke Hallmann.

He works across the spectrum of graphic design: from book design to type design, from writing to designing websites, from letterpress printing to laser cutting, out of curiosity and by necessity.

He teaches at the Rietveld Academie [preparatory course (2008 – 2020), basic year (2020 – ongoing) and graphic design department (2016 – ongoing)]. Has taught and given workshops at the graphic design department of ArtEZ Arnhem; the University of Seoul; the graphic design department of the HfG Karlsruhe and the Master Artistic Research of the KABK, The Hague.

He has worked upon commissions from the Department of Reading (SÖnke Hallmann), Scriptings (Achim Lengerer), Ruchama Noorda, Oude Kerk, Vibeke Mascini, Aimée Zito Lema, Jasper Engel Schilderwerken, Stijn Verhoeff, Kristina Benjocki, Pieter Paul Pothoven, Casco office for Art, Design and Theory, Karen Russo, Jacqueline Schoemaker, Galerie Rezeda, Judith Westerveld, Phaedra Haringsma, as well as through self-initiated research, writings, exhibitions and publications on subjects such as punkzines (Punk: Periodical Collection, Jan Van Eyck Academie, 2012), the typeface Hollandse Mediaeval (Type & Characters, self-published, 2012), the Lettrist concept of hypergraphy (Rules of Hypergraphy, Extrapool, 2014) and the magazines written, typeset and printed by children on the letterpresses of the Freinet schools (Freinet Techniques, Rollo press, 2024).
